Operant conditioning type of learning in which behavior is in uenced by consequences. Earning good grades is generally contingent upon studying effectively. Reinforcement - process in which an event or reward that follows a response increases the likelihood of that response occurring again. Law of effect idea that responses followed by satisfaction will occur again and those that are not followed by satisfaction become less likely. Reinforcer - stimulus that is contingent upon a response, and increases probability of that response occurring again. Punishment - process that decreases future probability of a response. Punisher - stimulus that is contingent upon a response, and that results in a decrease in behavior. Positive: stimulus is added to situation; positive can refer to reinforcement or punishment. Negative: stimulus is removed from a situation; negative can refer to reinforcement or punishment. Positive reinforcement -strengthening of behavior after potential reinforcers such as praise, money, or nourishment follows that behavior.
