Document Summary

Module 9. 3: biological, environmental, and behavioral influences on intelligence. The genetics of intelligence twin and adoption studies: Genetic similarity contributes to intelligence test scores. As the degree of genetic relatedness increases, the similarity in iq scores also increase. The intelligence scores of identical twins who live together are higher than fraternal twins. Identical twins, whether reared together or apart, tend to score very similarly or standardized measures of intelligence. Genes are an important source of individual variations in intelligence test scores. Heritability estimate describes how much of the differences between people in a sample can be accounted for by differences in their genes. Heritability depends on the number of people, the environment, and the people being studied. People in similar environments will have a higher heritability estimate when compared to people who live in different environments. The heritability of intelligence is between 40% and 80%.
