PSYB01H3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 4: Random Assignment, Experiment, Extraversion And Introversion
Document Summary
The basic steps to designing a research project: True experiment: designs in which the researcher manipulates all of the independent variables: manipulate = researcher assigns participants to the different experimental conditions in an unbiased manner. Quasi-independent variables: variables treated as if they were independent variables in the experimental design even though the researchers did not manipulate them. Quasi-experimental designs: designs within which random assignment cannot be used. The fou(cid:374)datio(cid:374) of a(cid:374)(cid:455) (cid:396)esea(cid:396)(cid:272)h desig(cid:374) is ou(cid:396) a(cid:271)ilit(cid:455) to (cid:373)easu(cid:396)e pa(cid:396)ti(cid:272)ipa(cid:374)ts" experiences in a way that provides useful information to answer our question. Self-report: any measurement technique that directly asks the participant how they think or feel: example: interviews, surveys, questionnaires. Useful measurement tools because they are relatively cheap and easy to administer. You get firsthand information from the source. Participants may not have enough self-knowledge to provide accurate answers, or may not be able to accurately describe their past and future behaviour.
