Document Summary
Chapter 2 hindsight bias - people"s tendency to be overcon dent about whether they could have predicted a given outcome. Social psychology research shows us that some of our stereotypes about how people behave are mistaken; it also shows us how such beliefs are formed with sometimes faulty procedures. Our beliefs about the reasons for our own behavior can also be mistaken. Social psychology ndings sometimes seem obvious, but often only after we know what they are. Homicides in cultures of honour can be the outcome of a quarrel over a bet (southerners respond aggressively to insults) Population - group you want to know about. Likely to capture the proportions of given types of people in the population as a whole. Everyone in the population has an equal chance of being chosen. Can produce proportions that are severely skewed away from the actual proportions in the population as a whole. Ex: contacting people as they enter the library.
