Cognitive growth that takes place during middle childhood enables children to develop more complex concepts of themselves & to grow in emotional understanding & control. A"s in them on my last report card & was really proud of myself. But i"m not so good at social studies and english, and sometimes i feel bad when i see how good the other kids are doing. I still like myself as a person though, With formation of representational systems, children have more realistic, balanced, & inclusive self-concepts that bring together diff aspects of themselves. Age 7/8, children reach new stage of self-concept development introduced. At this time, judgments about the self become more conscious, realistic, balanced, and comprehensive as children form representational systems: broad, inclusive self-concepts that integrate various aspects of the self. We see these changes in emily"s self-description. She has outgrown her earlier all-or-nothing, black/white self-definition.
