Used to be based on categorical view one either had or did not have disorder. Now dimensional view disorder is a continuum, ranging from normality to abnormality; people with or without it only differ in degree. Personality disorder enduring pattern of experience and behavior that differs greatly from the expectations of the individual"s culture. Basically when a trait becomes maladaptive and causes impairment or distress, is inflexible. Manifests in more than one area in how people think, feel, how they get along with others, ability to control their own behavior.
