Situation selection can hinge on personality dispositions and how we view ourselves. Social selections direct us to choose 1 path and avoid another. Mate selection you put yourself into prolonged contact with 1 person and this alters your social env. Mutual attraction or love is the most favored characteristic. Dependable character (conscientiousness), emotional stability, pleasing disposition. Sociability, refinement, neatness, ambition, industriousness many of the things they chose are personality traits so clearly those are important in choosing partner. Assortative mating for personality: the search for the similar. Complementary needs theory people are attracted to those who have different personality dispositions than they have; opposites attract. Attraction similarity theory people are attracted to those who have similar personality characteristics; most supported theory. Assortative mating people are married to people who are similar to themselves. People tend to marry people who are close by; universities promote assortative mating because the people there are often similar in certain things, like intelligence.
