Older people metabolize alcohol more slowly, thus, creating greater changes in brain chemistry. & more readily bring on toxic effects such as delirium. Much greater problem than drug and alcohol abuse in the aged population. Elderly are 13% of population but they consume 33% of all prescribed meds. Rem sleep: more sleep disturbance in older men than in older women.
