Tokens: generalized condiioned reinforcers that can be accumulated and exchanged for goods and services. Token economy: behaviour modiicaion program in which individuals are awarded tokens for desirable behaviours that can be collected and exchanged for backup reinforcers. Among the oldest and most successful programs in all of applied psychology. Can be set up for an individual, but usually for groups. Two major advantages: (a) tokens can be given immediately following desirable behaviours (b) tokens can be exchanged for a variety of backup reinforcers. Useful for groups wherein backup reinforcer preferences may difer. Health care (ex: in-paients unit of psych ward) Achievement plan: group home in kansas for predelinquent youth (10-16 years old) from diicult home environments who were referred by courts for commiing minor crimes (pety thet, ighing) 4 to 8 youth live with a married couple in a large domesic home. Tokens earned for appropriate social behaviours, daily living skills, and academic performance.
