Anxiety unpleasant feeling of fear and apprehension; future-focused. Ptsd and ocd are now considered separate chapters of dsm-5 and ptsd is stress disorder. Two distinct components physiological (heightened arousal and tension) and cognitive (subjective perception of anxious arousal and associated cognitive processes - worry and rumination) Just like other anxieties, test anxiety"s root is sense of self as de cient and powerless. A bit of anxiety is adaptive and normal but at some point, it gets problematic chronic, relatively intense, associated with role impairment, causing signi cant distress. Wanted to reduce number of symptoms for gad but didn"t do this because it would mean people with normal, everyday worries could be diagnosed. Situational factors must be taken into account anxiety people have fear when there is no threat. Most common psychological disorders, women have it more, start in childhood. Separation anxiety earliest age of onset (15-17), removed from dsm-5.
