Internalized devaluation and situational threat: social scientists thought targets of stigma and negative stereotypes internalized negative images and which would alter or even damage the personality of the stigmatized person. Stigmatized people sometimes decide that negative stereotypes of their group are valid, and stereotype themselves. Stigmatized people sometimes accept that they deserve their devalued status, and legitimize and defend the system that devalues them. Self-esteem refers to personal and global feelings of self-worth, self- regard, or self- acceptance. Self-esteem indicates: mental health, life satisfaction, emotional experience of daily life, represents a broad psychological consequence of stereotyping, prejudice, and stigma they thought stigma leads to decrease in self esteem, black ppl actually has higher self-esteem than whites. The moderator solution characteristics of the stigmatized could moderate the effect of stigma on self- esteem basically, self-esteem only gets affected in some ppl.
