Subjective well-being (swb): refers to how people evaluate their lives, includes emotional reactions to events, moods, judgements, and satisfaction with life domains (marriage, work) Swb can be measured in various different ways; surveys of feelings & moods, sampling of emotions over time, and reports from family/friends. Intercultural personhood: globalization and a way of being (kim) Cultural identity: an extension of the self, a shift away from the perception of the self as a unique person. Facework: when interacting with individuals of differing backgrounds, the ability to handle each other"s cultural identity flexibly is key to being a competent intercultural communicator. Plasticity: one of the most profound characteristics of the human mind and the basis upon which individuals acquire an identity. Adaptation: through direct & indirect contacts with an unfamiliar environment, we strive to establish a relatively stable & functional relationship with that environment.
