Clinical neuropsychology: applied science concerned with the behavioral expression of brain dysfunction. Links between body structures, common responses to common situations, and behavioral abnormalities. In the beginning there was no need for assessment. Impairment was just assumed and clinicians took action. The first (neuro)psychological assessment of abnormality was the ultimate no win situation for an evaluee. Autopsy of the brain revealed a brain lesion to broca"s area in the left frontal lobe: karl wernicke.
