PSYC31H3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 2: Electrodermal Activity, Neuropsychological Assessment, Neurological Examination
Document Summary
Clinical approach to study of brain functions involved the neurological examination which includes study of the brains product behaviour. The neurologist examines the strength, e ciency, reactivity, and the appropriateness of the patient"s responses to commands, questions, discrete stimulation to particular neural subsystems and challenges with muscle groups and motor systems. Also examines body structures, looking for evidence of brain dysfunction. Mental status portion is focused on higher behavioural functions such as language, memory, attention, and praxis. Np assessment is a means of measuring in a quantitative, standardized fashion the most complex aspects of human behaviour. Behavioural study in neuropsychology are centred around issues, ndings, and inferences relate to brain function. Eeg: used to study brain dysfunction and normal cognition, high in temporal resolution, poor spatial resolution. Ep & erp: can identify hemispheric specialization and assess processing speed and e ciency. Meg: higher resolution than eeg, high in temporal resolution, poor spatial resolution.
