A technique in which clients practice the successful retrieval of information over successively longer time intervals. A long term care resident complains that daughter never comes to visit, when she actually comes 2-3 times per week. Tell client that you can find out about when daughter is coming, from guest book. The therapist would prompt at expanding intervals, such as after 30 seconds, 60 seconds, then two minutes, 4 minutes, 8 minutes and 16 minutes.
