PSYC39H3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 2: Relational Aggression, Attachment Theory, Language Disorder
Document Summary
Aggression combined with peer rejection = antisocial/delinquent behaviour. The more risk factors a person is exposed to, the likely the person will participate in antisocial behaviour. A nurturing and healthy environment minimizes biologically and socially toxic conditions that influence healthy development. Gender differences in peer rejection: aggressive girls are more rejected; relational aggression; Preschool experiences: high quality infant and preschool care= better school achievement and socialized behaviour; Academic failure: early academic failure can predict delinquency and criminal behaviour. Cumulative risk model- accumulation of risk factors in interaction among risk factors and their effect on the absence of sufficient protective factors result in negative behavioural, emotional, and cognitive outcomes. The greater the number of risks experienced, the greater the prevalence of mental health, cognitive deficits and behavioural problems; additive approach developmental cascade model- (cid:498)snowballing(cid:499); outcomes; person"s developmental skills or deficits enhance or determine the nest skill or deficit.
