Document Summary

Do environmental stimuli contribute to heroin tolerance: most individuals addicted to heroin who were interviewed reported that they used their usual amount of heroin, but under atypical circumstance when they experienced an accidental overdose. Introduction: pharmacokinetics, how drugs move throughout the body, how people use drugs, e. g. snorting or smoking cocaine, pharmacodynamics, how the drug causes biological changes. In psychiatric settings, patients may refuse to swallow a drug therefore different routes of administration aid greatly. Not convenient for patients and not common for drug abusers. Patients cannot administer drugs themselves; drug effects occur too rapidly to counteract prescribing errors or drug overdose. Convenient for patients and common for many drugs of abuse. Individuals can administer themselves, but not convenient to do so. Can be used for individuals who may not want to take a medication (e. g. children or patients with schizophrenia) Convenient and provides an even, sustained release of drug into bloodstream. Absorbed through membranes in nasal passage or mouth.
