Iproniazid become the first clinically used mao inhibitor: produces antidepressant effects by binding to mao and preventing it from breaking down monoamine neurotransmitters. Likely by acting on melatonin receptors: reduced depression, antagonism of 5-ht2c receptors may produce increased levels of dopamine, no increased rates of sexual dysfunction, selected antidepressant drugs. Clara rebello: antidepressant drugs all share some limitations for treating depression, length of response time, clinically significant effects occur after 2 weeks of treatment and generally show full effects after 4 weeks. Increased levels in prefrontal cortex, amygdala, and hippocampus: chronic administration with ssri, reduces depression-like behaviour, 5-ht1a receptors levels, great rates of depression among those treating with isotrtinoin (accutane) for acne.
