Document Summary
Retain information in memory without using it for any specific purposes they essentially serve the same purpose as hard drives serve for a computer. Sensory memory - which moves into either stm/ltm. Shift information from one memory store to another. Information enters the sensory memory store through vision, hearing and other senses, and the control process we call attenti on selects which information it will pass on to stm. Some information in stm goes through, encoding, the process of storing information in the ltm system. Is a memory store that accurately holds perceptual information for a very brief amount of time. Sensory memory holds iconic memory and echoic memory. The visual form of sensory memory, usually held for about one -half to one second. The auditory form of sensory memory, usually held for considerably longer, but still about 5 seconds.
