Document Summary

Antecedents of a behavior are the stimuli, events, situations or circumstances that are present when it occurs or were present immediately before the behaviour. Defining stimulus control: stimulus control: outcome of stimulus discrimination training. Particular behavior is more likely to occur in presence of particular discriminative stimulus (sd )because behavior has been reinforced only when sd was present. Sd has stimulus control over behavior: behavior is said to be under stimulus control when increased probability that behavior will occur in presence of specific antecedent stimulus or stimulus from specific stimulus class. Stimulus discrimination training and punishment: stimulus discrimination training may also occur with punishment. So you don"t do it again but you might put soup in your mouth before it"s boiling or after it cools off: boiling soup is sd. The three-term contingency: skinner"s three term contingency: the consequence(reinforcer or punisher) is contingent on occurrence of a behavior only in presence of the specific antecedent stimulus called sd.
