Description
Chapter 15 DNRA is used to decrease problem behaviors that are maintained by negative reinforcement and to increase appropriate behaviours Variations of DRA Differential Reinforcement of an Incompatible behavior (DRI): the alternative behavior is physically incompatible with the problem behavior and therefore the 2 behaviours cannot occur at the same time. - Example: PB: Head slapping AB: anything with the use of the hand would be an incompatible behavior. Playing with toys involve the manipulation of materials with their hands would an incompatible behavior that could be reinforced to replace the head slapping in a DRI procedure Differential reinforcement of communication (DRC) Functional communication training - the individual with the problem behavior learns to make a communication response that is functionally equivalent to the problem behavior
