Chapter 12 Behavioural Skills Training Procedures BST procedures: are behavioural procedures that are used for teaching new skills. It is composed of the following components: Modeling, instructions, rehearsal, and feedback.  Modeling: the correct behaviour is demonstrated for the learner *Factors affecting modeling: o when the model exhibits the correct behaviour, it should result in a successful outcome ( a reinforcer) for the model o the model should resemble the people observing the model or should have high status o the complexity of the model’s behaviour should be appropriate to the developmental or the ability level of the learner o the learner has to pay attention t the model to learn the behaviour being modeled o the modeled behaviour should occur in the proper context, e.g in a real situation o the modelled behaviour should be repeated as often as necessary for the learner to imitate it correctly o the behaviour should be modeled in a variety of ways and in a variety of situations to enhance generalization o the learner should have the ability to rehearse (imitate) the behaviour asap after observing the model along with immediate reinforcement  Instructions: describe the appropriate behaviour for the learner *factors affecting instructions: o The instructions should be presented at the level that the learner an understand o The instructions should be delivered by someone who has credibility with the learner o The learner should have the opportunity to rehearse the behaviour asap after receiving the instructions o Instructions should be paired with modeling o The instructions should be given only when the learner in paying attention o The learner should repeat the instruction to ensure that the learner has acquired the new skill  Rehearsal: is the opportunity for the learner to practice the behaviour. *factors affecting rehearsal: o The behaviour should be rehearsed in the proper context o Rehearsals should be programmed for success, e.g practicing easy behaviours first and
