CHAPTER 23: BEHAVIOURAL CONTRACTS Defining the Behavioural Contract Behavioural contact: is a written agreement between two parties in which one or both parties agree to engage in a specified level of a target behaviour Also called a contingency contract or a performance contract Consequences will be administered contingent on the occurrence The behaviour is negatively reinforced The contract states the time frame of the agreement & identifies the person response for administering the consequence The behaviour of one party is reinforced by the behaviour of the second party The contract is time-limited, thus the contract can be renegotiated & rewritten frequently so that any problems in the contract can be corrected Components of a Behavioural Contract 1) Identifying the target behaviour The target behaviour must be stated in clear, objective terms With the assistance of the contract manager, the client chooses target behaviour that are meaningful & in need of change 2) Stating how the target behaviours will be measured Clients must be able to prove that the target behaviours did or did not occur so that the contingencies can be implemented correctly Acceptable methods include permanent products of the behaviours or direct observation & documentation of the behaviour Example permanent product measures may be fingernail length in a contract to stop www.notesolution.com
