The various types of psychotherapies are roughly equivalent in effect size (book: the measure of the magnitude of the treatment effect) All therapies have common factors, which are probably more important than their own unique theories. Worse than nonspecific factors such as the alliance and client s emotional involvement with the therapist. Conflate: (formal) to combine two or more things together to make one new thing. Idiographic: pertaining to or involving the study or explication of individual cases or events. Nomothetic: relating to, involving, or dealing with abstract, general, or universal statements or laws.
