Document Summary
Research a systematic approach to gathering data using an agreed-upon set of methods that social scientists have developed over the years. The kinds of research questions you ask will always depend on the theoretical perspective from which you are working. There can be a difference between macrosociology and microsociology perspectives and how they would as research questions. Functionalists will be concerned with how families socialize children into their appropriate societal roles. Conflict theorists are concerned with the struggle over scarce resources by different groups in society and how elites control the less powerful. Symbolic interactionalists are interested in face-to-face encounters and the meanings that people use to facilitate social life. Feminists theorists are interested in examining issues pertaining to gender and inequality. Queer theorists are interested in troubling taken-for-granted concepts such as the term (cid:862)(cid:374)or(cid:373)al(cid:863) The research methods you would use also depend on what theoretical poc you use and there is no best method for every project.
