Document Summary

Michel foucault: french philosopher 1926-1984 was interesting in the ways that powers and knowledge work together. Power, knowledge and discourse, michel views power relations as being created within social relationships. Individuals have agency, meaning the capacity for self direction action, since they have the ability to resist power relations and to alter power relations. Knowledge is power, to know something is excreting power. Discourses: which guides how we think, act, speak about a particular thing or issues as well determine who is authorized to speak. Discipline: the means by which he became motivated to produce particular redivides. Normalization: a social process by which some actions and ways of living are marked as normal and others are marked as abnormal. Queer theory: the belief that everyone should be treated equal under the law. Enjoying the fights and privileges afforded to all citrons. Three areas of queer theory that will explore in turn one desire, language and identity.
