Document Summary

Stab22 - chapter 2: displaying and describing categorical data. Frequency table: a table that shows the categories of a categorical variable by giving the number or counts of the specific category. Relative frequency table: a table that shows the percentage of each category instead of counts. It shows how individual cases are distributed across the categories. Distribution: is when a categorical variable is divided in such a way that the frequency and possible categories are displayed in the table. Area principle: a principle that states that each data value should be represented by the same amount of data. Bar chart: displays the distribution of a categorical variable. The height of the bar shows the value of each category in counts which makes it easy to compare with the other categories. A relative bar chart can also be used which uses percentage instead of counts to compare the values of the categories.
