Document Summary
Observational study: is a study that observes and measures individuals and variables of interest. Observational studies are the best in determining possible relationships and trends. Instead of determining casual relationships, it assess association between the two variables. Retrospective study (looking back): is a study in which data is collected after the events occur. For example, measuring insomnia from historical records: easer to obtain data, not time consuming, more confounds and bias. Prospective study (looking forward): is a study in which data is collected as the study occurs. For example, the framingham heart study: there are less confounds and bias, the outcome is common. Experiment: is when a researcher imposes a specific type of treatment on individuals or variables of interest to perceive their response. In this experiment, a lady was supposed to determine which tea cup out of 8, had the milk poured first into the cup. Experiments are the best way to understand causal relationships.
