APS111H1 Chapter Notes - Chapter 5: Secret Ballot, Rank, Decision Matrix
Document Summary
Methods used to try to remove bias to ground decisions rmly in engineering reasoning. They also assist in developing the justi cation for decisions when the design process and reasoning are explained. A decision-making method that is effective for reducing a very long list down to a more manageable list; used extensively by professional design teams. In this method each team member is given several votes to assign to items on the list. This method works particularly well if there are two objectives, or criteria, that are clearly more important than the other evaluation criteria for the project: pugh method. A decision-making method that is a variation of a pairwise comparison that also builds on benchmarking by comparing alternatives against a standard solution. It is generally used for comparing potential design solutions against an existing technology or a standard set of goals using the objectives for the project.
