Document Summary

Endomembrane system: a collecion of membranous organelles that are dynamic and work together. Includes endoplasmic reiculum, golgi complex, endosomes, lysosomes, and vacuoles. This route is also referred to as the secretory pathway. There are two types of secretory acivity: (exocyic pathway) Consituive secreion: materials being coninually transported in secretory vesicles from where they are made (usually rer for proteins) to then be released outside the cell (extracellular space) Regulated secreion: stuf is only secreted when the appropriate simulus is present (someimes these are stored in large, dense secretory granules) Stuf comes into the cell from outside to take to the compartments of the cell. Each organelle requires speci c proteins, including both the membrane proteins and the internal proteins in the lumen. Both these types of proteins that are synthesized in the cytoplasm/ in the ribosomes (rer) have signal sequences to take them to the appropriate organelle.
