Caribou need to get on path to be able to put some space between them and the wolf. Once on path they can outrun the wolf. Wolf needs to give up before they get tired. Caribou travels north to stay ahead of spring melt. 2. 5 million tons of ice breaks free and plows down the river. Ice freezes and encases their heart and ice covers their eyes. Wood frogs spend the winter buried beneath leaf litter. They don"t breathe and their blood doesn"t flow. Mating season as soon as woken up. Internal freezing allows wood frog to be most northernly amphibians. 4 weeks old venture out for the first time. Providing milk for so many pups is hard on the young mother. Has to wait for mate to return with food (sort of parental care for father. Hard to provide food in bleak landscape. Neither parent leaves nest until eggs hatch. Caribou like to feed here because of goose droppings.
