Document Summary
Contesting global narratives of climate change in tuvalu. Climate change is a discursive and material phenomenon . Climate mobility is often characterized as the production of refugees". The island nation of tuvalu is being used as evidence for climate change. Tuvaluans are being defined by the narrative of climate change refugees : climate refugee discourse: The term climate refugee has been produced to represent the large number of people, Predicted to be permanently or temporarily displaced by climate change effects such as drought, desertification, deforestation, soil erosion, water shortages and rising sea levels. There is a lack of legal protection for these so called climate refugees . The term climate refugee seems to produce this idea that the changing climate/environment is the single factor forcing the displacement of these people. This definition ignorxes that there is often a numerous amount of other factors (social and economic circumstances, lack of resources) that displace climate refugees .
