It can be found in different religions and predates islam. In islam, this phenomenon is interchangeably known as. Sufism of tasawwuf and seems to have cause trouble since the initiation of the concept. A mystic or sufi is someone who has divinity, curiosity and the desire to unite with god to the extent that he/she gives up all the worldly desires and needs. The first labeled sufi emerged in 776 ad named abu hashim al kufi. Sufis seem to link quranic verses and prophetic sayings to mean mysticism. The reading also states that sufis also existed during the time of prophet muhammad. One prominent mystic in the history of sufism was a persian named husayn ibn. He was mainly sunni although he was exposed to a zaydi zanj clan for sometime.
