Knowning al lthe genes and protein they code gives scientists potential targest for new drugs. Before discovering new meds, scientists understand the disease and what causes it. Will often reach dead ends. Even if successful, will take years to make this basic understanding into a new treatment. Choose a molecule to target with a drug. Select target for potential new medicine. Target generally a gene or portein involved in particular disease. Have to pick target that"s drugable (can interact with/be affected by a drug molecule) Test the target and confirm its role in the disease. After choosing target, scientists must show tht it is involved in diseas and is drugable.
