Manifesto of the Communist PartyPAGE 1421 y By bourgeoisie is meant the class of modern capitalists owners of the means of social production and employers of wage laboury By proletariat the class of modern wage labourers who having no means of production of their own are reduced to selling their labour power in order to live yCommune was the name taken in France by the nascent towns even before they had conquered from their feudal lords and masters local selfgovernment and political rights as the Third Estatey The society has been divided into two groups facing each other Bourgeoisie and Proletariat y From the serfs of the Middle Ages sprang the chartered burghers of the earliest towns From these burgesses the first elements of the bourgeoisie were developed y The middle class of people in small towns were the first element of the bourgeoisie y They have taken over the development and industry of towns and slowly one by one weaken the feudal system y As demands grew and markets started to increase a group of Rich Millinersthe leaders of whole industrial companies Called the modern bourgeoisie came to power y The bourgeoisie wherever it has got the upper hand has put an end to all feudal patriarchal idyllic relations y The bourgeoisie converted the physician the lawyer the priest the poet the man of science into its paid wage labourers y The need of a constantly expanding market for its products chases the bourgeoisie over the entire surface of the globe It must nestle everywhere settle everywhere and establish connexions everywhere y The bourgeoisie have created big cities with lots of people it made the them depend on the towns and it made the towns depend on them y In only 100 years the bourgeoisie have created more productive force than generations before y The weapons with which the bourgeoisie felled feudalism to the ground are now turned against the bourgeoisie itselfthe working class that they createdbrought to existence Proletarians y The proletarians the working class have developed class of labours who live only so long as they find work and who find work only so long as their labour increases capital y The proletariat goes through various stages of development With its birth begins its struggle with the bourgeoisie At first the contest is carried on by individual labourers then by the workpeople of a factory then by the operative of one trade in one locality against
