Document Summary

According to legend, simonides of ceos (greek poet) was the first to create methods of improving memory. So simonides was at this party and some shit went down and a roof fell and killed everyone at the party. This shows us that the way you encode information affects the probability of you remembering the info later. Memory consists of encoding new info, storing that info, and then retrieving the stored info another time. Encoding: process of transforming sensory and perceptual info into memory traces. Retrieval: the process of accessing memorized info and returning it to short-term memory. In between encoding and retrieval is the concept of storage: storage: the time and manner in which information is retained between encoding and retrieval. It appears that how you encode information is the most important factor that affects how likely you are to remember the information. It does help, but it is definitely not the most effective way to remember.
