Module 6. 2 - operant conditioning: learning through consequences. Reinforcement plays a role in these behaviours. Rewarding behaviour makes us keep on betting in hope of winning: we may or may not win, either way, we have the cravings for keep on betting, a fine example of operant learning. Operant conditioning a type of learning in which behaviour is influenced by consequences. In classical conditioning, no response is required for learning to take place. Reinforcement a process that increases the likelihood of a behaviour occurring again. Thor(cid:374)dike"s puzzle bo(cid:272)k the effect of reinforcement: cat fish outside of the box, the time that it took the cat to escape the box and pick up the food. Decreased over many trials due to operant learning. Ki(cid:374)(cid:374)er"s e(cid:454)peri(cid:373)e(cid:374)t skinner boxes (operant chamber: rat/pigeon inside the box, pressing on lever/key to receive food or water, lever presses recorded over time. Reinforcer a stimulus that increases the probability of a response occurring again.
