Document Summary

3. 2 how the nervous system works: cells and neurotransmitters. Neurotoxic - specifically attacks cells of the nervous system. Cells in the nervous system play an incredibly important role in everything you do(moving, sensing, thinking, and feeling) Neurons - one of the major types of cells found in the nervous system - responsible for sending and receiving messages throughout the body. To receive input from one group of neurons -> transmit that info to other neurons. Cell body(soma): contains the nucleus that houses the cell"s genetic material -> synthesize proteins which allow the neuron to function. Dendrites: small branches radiating from the cell body(receiving messages) and transmit toward the rest of the cell. When axon hillock(base of the cell body) receives enough stimulation, a chemical reaction will occur to the rest of the neuron ->initial step in a neuron communication. Axon: transports info as a electrochemical reactions from cell body to neuron"s end(axon terminal)
