Document Summary
Women participate in therapy more often then men and older people tend to seek treatment more. Out of 1600 diagnosed with depression, only 30% seeked help. Two thirds of people do not seek treatment. People may not think they have a disorder. Social costs: being treated differently by those around you. Extra pressures on men to avoid treatment because needing help seem incompatible with the idea of being strong . Traditional male roles do not promote talking about emotions and acknowledging vulnerabilities. Whether they can afford it or have time. Heavy advantage toward the medical approaches- because that is covered under health insurance. People can be compelled through the courts or on the advice of social service agencies to be treated for mental illness. Clinical psychologists: have received ph. d. level of training, and are able to formally diagnose and treat mental health issues ranging from every day and mild to chronic and severe.
