Science is a philosophy of knowledge that stems from two fundamental beliefs: empiricism: knowledge comes through experience. Knowledge about the world is based on careful observaion, not on common sense. Whatever we see or measure should be observable by anyone else who follows the same methods: determinism: all events are governed by lawful, cause-and-efect relaionships. Free will vs. determinism: we feel as if we are in control of out behaviour but there are compelling reasons to believe that some of our behaviours are determined through genes, brain, chemistry, and external inluences.
