Module 1. 1: the science of psychology: psychology involves the study of behaviour, which can include: perceptions, thoughts and emotions, psychologists imply the scientific method in their world. Psychology: the scientific study of behaviour, thought and experience and how they can be affected by physical, mental, social and environmental factors. If something is a science it is based on the use of the scientific method. Learning about the world though collecting observations, developing theories to explain them and using theories to make predictions. Involves dynamic interaction between hypothesis testing and the construction of theories. Hypothesis: a testable perdition about a process that can be observed and measured. You cant prove a hypothesis, it can only be supported or rejected. Difference between astrology and science: horoscope make general predictions and want you to take their word for it while scientists wants to test hypothesis.
