Personality can be measured by examining the details of our dwellings. Key challenge: figuring out how our personalities and circumstances work together in shaping our behaviours. Personality: characteristic pattern of thinking, feeling, and behaving that is unique to each individual, and remains relatively consistent over time and situations. Idiographic approach: creating detailed descriptions of a specific person"s unique personality characteristics: can be applied to the whole range of human experience, e. g. criminal profiling, maslow"s hierarchy of needs. Personality trait: person"s habitual pattern of thinking, feeling, and behaving: sort cut to understanding people. First thing to do is to identify the traits. Gordon allport 18000 words: theory of personality structure by organizing these words into traits. Personality tests have been derived on the basis of traits. It is easier to make people believe that you are measuring personality than actually measuring it.
