Document Summary

Pcp and ketamine are nmda antagonists and taking these drugs cause psychotic-like behaviour and can induce it in those already with schiz. Therefore, blocking the receptor and thus causing a deficit of glutamate may be involved in symptoms of schiz. More etiology of schiz: neurophysiological differences, eye-tracking irregularities, hypofrontality. Smooth-pursuit eye movement while keeping your head still, you must be able to track a moving pendulum back and forth with your eyes. The ability to track objects smoothly across the visual field is deficient in many people who have schizophrenia. These eye-tracking deficits are associated with both ve and +ve symptoms but associated much stronger with +ve symptoms. Research has shown that people with schiz have larger ventricles (which means that the ventricles have dilated as a result of adjacent parts of the brain not being developed fully which allows the ventricles to become larger).
