Somatic symptom disorder and illness anxiety disorder. A person with somatic symptom disorder has one or more distressing physical symptoms and spends a great deal of time and energy thinking about these symptoms and energy thinking about these symptoms and seeking medical care for them. Ex: gastrointestinal symptoms (nausea, diarrhea), pain symptoms, neurological symptoms, etc.
