Often excessively concerned about their symptoms and spend a great deal of time worrying and seeking medical treatment. Possibility that an individual has a real physical disorder that is difficult to detect or diagnose. Pseudocyesis: false pregnancy - a woman believes she is pregnant but physical examination and laboratory tests confirm that she is not. Five specific disorders in the ssd category. Somatic symptom disorder and illness anxiety disorder. A person with somatic symptom disorder has one or more distressing physical symptoms and spends a great deal of time and energy thinking about these symptoms and energy thinking about these symptoms and seeking medical care for them. Ex: gastrointestinal symptoms (nausea, diarrhea), pain symptoms, neurological symptoms, etc.
