Most common emotion is sadness, a deep, unrelenting pain. Many report a loss of interest in everything in life, anhedonia. Changes in appetite (loss of or more of), sleep (sleep all day or insomnia, early morning wakening), activity levels. Psycho-motor retardation, condition where people with depression are slowed down. Some have psycho-motor agitation, feel physically agitated, can t sit still. Thoughts may be filled with themes of worthlessness, guilt, hopelessness, suicide. In severe cases, lose complete touch with reality, experience delusions and hallucinations. Delusions are beliefs with no basis in reality. Hallucinations involve seeing, hearing, or feeling things that aren t real. Usually are depressing and negative in content. Requires a person experience either depressed mood or loss of interest in usual activities, plus at least four other symptoms of depression chronically for 2weeks+
