Document Summary
Retina receives light from a specific object, in a specific shape. Inverse projection problem: the same shape could have been produced by another object in a different conformation. People can perceive very small parts of an object and conclude what object it is. Perceive objects as whole, even if we cannot see it full. People can conclude from blurred photos, the real objects. The exact shape of an object changes when viewed from any different viewpoint. Viewpoint invariance: ability to recognize an object seen from different viewpoints. Bottom up processing: sequence from perceiving the simple features concluding the object. Top-down processing: processing that originates in the brain: information that influencing our perception, expectations, attention to specific stimuli, etc. Familiarity w/ faces now we see faces formed by the shadows of rocks. Familiarity w/ contexts we see blobs as participating in the scene much like they would in real life.
