Document Summary
Perception: taking in information from the outside world through our senses and using it to in order to determine what is in our environment. Sensation is the conversion of physical properties of the world into a neural code. Perception is the processing of sensory information into something that can meaningfully guide behavior. We don"t actually see with our eyes or hear with our ears. We do both with our brain, where perception takes place. Proprioception: the sense where in space our limbs are. Nociception: the sense of pain due to bodily damage. The human eye is an organ whose purpose is to gather light, focus it, and turn it into a neural signal. In order for light to enter the eye, it must first pass through the cornea, which is a transparent, rubbery layer of tissue at the front of the eye.
