Document Summary
Autobiographical memory: recollected events that belong to a person"s past. Memory is determined by creative mental processes. Creativity helps us determine what happened when we have incomplete information: but can also affect accuracy of our memory. Ex. an am of a child"s birthday party: episodic memory: images of the cake and people at the party, semantic memory: knowledge about when party occurred, general knowledge about parties. Am is an episodic memory for events in our lives plus personal semantic memories of facts about our lives. Consists of spatial, emotional, and sensory components. The multidimensional nature of am: reminiscence bump: enhanced memory for adolescence and young adulthood found in people over 40 self-image or life identity is being formed. Pictures of a location that people took themselves elicited memories associated with taking the picture activated more extensive network of brain areas. Likely that each explanation makes some contribution to creating the reminiscence bump.
