Document Summary

Perception doesn t just happen, it s the end result of complex behind the scene processes. Perceptual process, a sequence of processes that work together to determine our experience of and reaction to stimuli in the environment (1) environmental stimulus. Stimulus (2) attended stimulus (3) stimulus on the receptors (4) transduction. Experience and action (7) perception (8) recognition (9) action. *arranged in a circle with knowledge above the circle* Environmental stimulus is all of the things in our environment that we can potentially perceive. Attended stimulus is whatever is being attended to. E. g. looking at a moth creates an image of it and its immediate surroundings on the receptors of the retina. The stimulus is transformed into an image on the retina, a representation of the moth. The transformation of one form of energy into another form of energy. Occurs when energy in the environment (e. g. light, mechanical pressure, chemical) is transformed into electrical energy.
