Document Summary

On the costs of accessible attitudes: detecting that the attitude object has. When attitudes are close in mind, can be difficult interpreting new information without using that attitude. When attitudes are accessible, participants had more difficulty detecting a change in the attitude object. Having an attitude of an object stored in memory allows for easy access for when that object is encountered. The strength of the connection determines the likelihood that the attitude will be activated from memory automatically upon encountering said object. Attitudes ease decision making as it allows for quick decisions as opposed to spending time figuring things out. Attitude can influence and be influenced by attention and categorization. Attitudes can have a strong biasing effect on new information. If an attitude object has changed over time, our attitudes can prevent us from changing our opinion on them. Taken one step further, if the attitude object physically changes we may be less likely to see it.
